Fishing Industry career for Teens
Job levels, descriptions, pay, working days and promotion requirements are here:
Who wants to work in an office? The beach is the best place to work. You decide to try and make a little money by digging up pails full of lug worms, and selling them to the fishermen on the quayside. Paddling along the muddy flats at low tide, you can easily spot the lug worm burrows by their worm casts, then it is simple enough to dig the big worms out. The fishermen are happy to buy your worms, they are such a great bait for so many fish.
Sat, Sun, Tues, Wed,Thur. 5.a.m. - 7.a.m. Pay £50 Required for Promotion: Body 1, Cleaning 1. Friend 1.
2. Barnacle Scraper.
Too many other kids have copied you, and are now digging bait for your customers. You can no longer get the price you once got for the lug worms, so when you are offered a part time job in a boat yard, it seems like a good idea to accept. But, barnacles! The time spent with the pressure hose getting the shells off is OK, but then you have to scrape every sticky bit left attached off by hand, without damaging the boat hull underneath. This has got to be the most frustrating job in the boat yard.
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat. 3 p.m.-6p.m. Pay £60 Required for Promotion: Body 1, Cleaning 2, Mechanical 1, Friend 1.
3. Fish Gut Shoveller
Your hands were getting all cut to pieces by the barnacles, so you took an indoor job at the fish processing plant. Your job is to shovel up the spilled fish guts and to wash down the processing line at the end of the day. Smelly, but you actually find yourself enjoying the banter of the line workers, and fish guts are easier on the hands than barnacles.
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri. 3pm – 6 pm. Pay £80 Required for Promotion n/a.
There are chance cards for each level. The scenario's are here, but the outcomes have been left to be a surprise.
A Mud Bank B Shore
2. Your boss has taken the boat owner into the office. You are alone in the boat yard, hand scraping the barnacles with a plastic scraper. This boat seems to have a particularly large and tough population of the things, and you have been told to get them all off before going home. There are some metal scrapers in the boatyard, but when you started you were told to use plastic. Should you stick to plastic or try a metal scraper?
A Plastic B Metal
3. Usually, you enjoy the banter and chat of the line workers while you clean up around them, but there is one you don't much care for. He's a kid around your own age, and he thinks he is a comedian.Today he was worse than usual, and you are tired of being the butt of his jokes. It is the end of the day. You can see him now, just coming out of the locker room to go home, while you are still hosing down the processing line. Should you spray him with the pressure hose, or not?
A Spray Him! B Not.
