This is a pack of mods that:
  • make insects sensitive to weather and environment,
  • make some insect-related interactions more reasonable.

Updates
27 Oct 2024:
  • Changed temperature thresholds to give a more realistic feel: T1 from -15 to -30, T0 from 0 to -15. Redownload simNopke-insectsSanity-core.

Conditions
Terms and symbols used later in the description.

Weather conditions:
  • W: it's winter,
  • T0: the temperature is -15 or lower*,
  • T1: the temperature is -30 or lower*,
  • P0: it's raining, hailing, or snowing on the insects,
  • P1: it's raining heavily or torrentially, hailing, or snowing on the insects,
  • A0: there's hail or snow under/on the insects,
  • A1: there's snow under/on the insects.
* 0 is the most comfortable temperature for Sims.
Below -30, Sims start wearing outerwear; this is also the temperature above which pond water thaws.
The water freezes at -50 though.

Autonomous hunting conditions:
  • a Sim is on a hobby lot, a non-business community lot, or on a lot they live on,
  • in case a Sim is a vampire, it's night or insects are in a closed room.

Core mod
The main file containing a global function that checks weather conditions.

Every other mod from this pack requires the core mod.
Bees over flowers mod
  • prevents bees from flying over a flower bed when:
    • the flower bed is dead – as originally,
    • the flower bed is dormant,
    • it's between 6 PM and 7 AM – as originally,
    • at least one of the following weather conditions is met: W, T1, P0, A1.
  • halves the chance of bees appearing over a flower bed when it's not blooming – from original 25% to 12.5%.
Bees react to time and weather changes with a delay of up to around 40 minutes.

This mod requires the core mod and Seasons.
Bugs hunting mod
  • makes Sims unable to hunt bugs when:
    • at least one of the following weather conditions is met: W, T1, P0, A0
    • or their bug collection is complete.
  • allows Sims to hunt bugs autonomously only when:
    • all of the autonomous hunting conditions are met
    • or their nature enthusiasm is at least 6 points or their predistinated hobby is nature.
  • fixes the icon of the autonomous hunting interaction. It was binoculars originally,
  • prevents the chased by bees interaction from clearing the interaction queue of a Sim who's been hunting bugs.
This mod requires the core mod, Seasons, and FreeTime.
I highly recommend Bug Collection Fix by Cyjon to be able to catch every bug.

Use the regular version of this mod unless instructions in the conflicts section say otherwise.
Use only one version at a time.
Butter- and fireflies mod
  • makes butter- and fireflies not appear or fly away when at least one of the following weather conditions is met: W, T0 (for butterflies) or T1 (for fireflies), P0, A0,
  • allows butter- and fireflies to fly away after interacting with them:
    • 25% chance after chasing or failing to catch them,
    • 100% chance after successful catching.
  • makes the lifespan of butter- and fireflies swarm random: from 1 to 5 hours. Originally, their lifespan was always 4 hours,
  • allows Sims to catch butter- and fireflies autonomously only if:
    • all of the autonomous hunting conditions are met
    • and they're children or have at least 8 points of playfulness.
  • makes Sims' interest in catching butter- and fireflies increase with their enthusiasm for nature.
This mod requires the core mod and Seasons.
Tuning: You can change the chances and the lifespan by editing the behavior constant from this file in SimPe.

I recommend my No Jars Leaving mod to prevent unselectable Sims from leaving jars with butter- and fireflies on lots.

Butter- and fireflies spawning mod
  • prevents butter- and fireflies from spawning when at least one of the following weather conditions is met: W, T0 (for butterflies) or T1 (for fireflies), P0, A0,
  • allows up to 5 swarms of butter- or fireflies to be on a lot at the same time. There could be only one swarm originally,
  • makes the chance of spawning a swarm of butter- or fireflies (once per hour) depend on more factors than just the current season. The chance is calculated using the following scoring system (p.p. stands for percentage points):
    • it's spring:
      • +15 p.p. for butterflies (+20 p.p. originally)
      • +10 p.p. for fireflies (as originally)
    • it's summer:
      • +10 p.p. for butterflies (as originally)
      • +15 p.p. for fireflies (+20 p.p. originally)
    • it's fall: 0 p.p. (+5 p.p. originally),
    • there's at least one tree, shrub, or alive flowerbed on the lot: +5 p.p.
    • plant scoring:
      • each shrub: +2 p.p.,
      • each tree: +1 p.p.,
      • each blooming flowerbed: +3 p.p.,
      • each not-blooming but alive flowerbed: +1 p.p.
    • each swarm of butter- or fireflies on the lot: -6 p.p.

Hiking mod
  • makes Sims being on a hike unable to catch bugs or be chased by bees when at least one of the following weather conditions is met: W, T1, P0, A0.
This mod requires the core mod, Seasons, and FreeTime.
Ladybugs mod
  • prevents ladybugs from flying out of a ladybug house Lovely LadyBug Loft when:
    • it's between 7 PM and 7 AM,
    • at least one of the following weather conditions is met: W, T1, P0, A1.
This mod requires the core mod and Seasons.
Roaches mod
  • makes roaches outside die when at least one of the following weather conditions is met: T1, P1, A1,
  • prevents roaches from spawning outside (e.g. under a pile of trash) under the above conditions,
  • makes dead roaches under deep snow disappear just like leaves do.
This mod requires the core mod and Seasons.
