Community Apple Orchard

This new community orchard is open for apple picking! The orchard provides the community with free apples, and a place to come together for a nice BBQ.

Community gardening has been discussed as a way to balance social, ecological, and economic forces within our lives. An orchard can help foster phychological resiliency and eco-identity, and provides healthy and fresh fruit to urban communities. The act of creating a community garden itself is already a helpful tool for the local community, as it requires careful examination of a community's needs. This extra insight helps target the most relevant areas to provide assistance. Additionally, tending to these gardens as a group activity has shown to foster a stronger sense of 'belonging and connectedness' within the community. This is created both by working together, and by the rewarding aspect of the shared work being benificial for the community.
