Welcome to Willow Park!

Whether you want to enjoy a nice calming nature stroll, play some sports, or spend the evening in the fire pit with your friends, Willow Park has got you covered. The ancient willow tree is the focal point of this park. It has not only provided the park with its name, but it’s also an excellent source of shade for the local duck population. Enjoy!

This mod attempts to draw attention to the fact that public parks have an important ecological role, and that they are social spaces where visitors are not required to spend money.

Public parks help capture and store carbon emissions, and so filter the urban air. Yet despite this vital function, there is a shortage of green spaces and urban parks in densely populated cities. While the worlds of The Sims 4 are often not as densely populated as our real world cities, this mod still attempts to draw attention to the function of real-life parks. Parks are associated with an increase in the quality of life in modern cities, and a way to counteract the alienation between people and nature.

Apart from their ecological function, a park is a public space designed without the intent of consumerist consumption. In other words, visitors are not expected to spend money during their stay. In our increasingly capitalist and consumerist society, purchasing products or services is often expected from people existing in a public space. For example, although a shopping mall is considered a ‘public’ space, it is a privately owned space where people are expected to spend money. Major purchases might not be required, but small purchases are often still expected (like buying a cup of coffee in order to be allowed to sit at a café). Parks are an important place for socializing and fostering a sense of community, and can do this without the underlying assumption of spending money.
