There are many different genetics mods out there, but chances are none of them meet your needs.
This is a pack of mods that change genetic values (and in some cases townification or visibility) of Maxis hair colors, eye colors, and skin tones.

If you have pre-release mods named simNopke-alteredGenetics-###, delete them before you install these mods.
Update (9 Nov 2024): Eye colors and skin tones no longer appear as custom content if files that change them are in the Downloads folder.
Contents of the pack
The pack contains one folder for each maxis hair color, eye color, and skin tone.
Each folder contains files with different settings of the same color/tone. The naming convention is:
simNopke-geneticsDIY-1-2-3-4
  1. genetic category,
    e.g. simNopke-geneticsDIY-hair-blond-1.5,
  2. color/tone,
    e.g. simNopke-geneticsDIY-eyes-darkBlue-2,
  3. genetic value,
    e.g. simNopke-geneticsDIY-eyes-green-1.5,
  4. additional properties:
    • original – the genetic value is the same as in the original game,
      e.g. simNopke-geneticsDIY-hair-brown-1-original,
    • unlocked – originally, the color/tone isn't visible in CaS, but the mod makes it visible,
      e.g. simNopke-geneticsDIY-eyes-alien-0-unlocked,
    • townified – originally, the color/tone can't be chosen by the game when creating a random Sim, but the mod makes it possible,
      e.g. simNopke-geneticsDIY-skin-mannequin-0.01-unlocked-townified.
Available genetic values:
  • eye colors: 0 · 0.5 · 1 · 1.5 · 2 · 2.5
  • hair colors: 0 · 0.5 · 1 · 1.5 · 2
  • alien skin tone: 0 · 0.001
  • mannequin skin tone: 0 · 0.01
  • light skin tone: 0 · 0.1
  • medium skin tone: 0 · 0.3
  • medium-dark skin tone: 0 · 0.6
  • dark skin tone: 0 · 0.9
Choose only one file from each folder.
Additional features
In an unmodded game, alien eyes cannot appear on a Sim who doesn't have an alien skin tone, even if the Sim has alien eye genes. All alien eye color mods in this pack unlock these eyes for all Sims.

Important notes
Make sure you understand how in-game genetics work – see the genetics sections below.
Before you start using mods from this pack, remove other mods changing genetics of the same traits.
Only newly born Sims will be affected by your changes. Existing Sims' appearance won't be affected.
If you plan to breed mannequin-skinned Sims, use also Mannequin babies can be born by bloodredtoe.
How hair and eye color genetics work in the game
  • Each hair color has its genetic value (in the examples, values are preceded by a slash, e.g. /2),
  • Each Sim has 2 hair color alleles, e.g.
    • 🟫brown/1 and 🟧red/2,
    • ⬛black/1 and 🟫brown/1,
    • 🟨blond/2 and 🟨blond/2.
  • Only one of these alleles is expressed (visible in a Sim's appearance). The rules are as follows:
    CaseResolution Example
    Sim's allelesSim's appearance
The alleles have different genetic valuesThe one with a lower genetic value (dominant) is expressed.🟫brown/1
    🟧red/2
    🟫brown-haired
The alleles have the same genetic valuesOne of them is randomly chosen to be expressed.⬛black/1
    🟫brown/1
    ⬛black- or 🟫brown-haired
  • When two Sims have a child, the child randomly gets one allele from one parent, and another allele from another parent.
It works the same way for eye colors.

How skin tone genetics work in the game
  • Each skin tone has its genetic value (in the examples, values are preceded by a slash, e.g. /0.3):
    • if a skin tone has a genetic value other than 0, it's a range skin tone:
      • originally, all natural skin tones ✋🏻✋🏽✋🏾✋🏿.
    • if a skin tone has a genetic value equal 0, it's a special skin tone:
      • originally, the 🟩alien and ⬜mannequin skin tones.
  • Each Sim has 2 skin tone alleles, e.g.
    • ✋🏿dark/0.9 and 🟩alien/0,
    • ✋🏽medium/0.3 and ✋🏽medium/0.3.
  • Only one of these alleles is expressed (visible in a Sim's appearance). The rules are as follows:
    CaseResolution Example
    Sim's allelesSim's appearance
Both alleles are range skin tones so they're the same (explained further)Just expressed.✋🏽medium/0.3
    ✋🏽medium/0.3
    ✋🏽medium-skinned
At least one allele is a special skin tone and exactly one parent has two the same alleles of that special skin tone (e.g. Pollination Technican)The special skin tone is expressed.✋🏿dark/0.9
    🟩alien/0
    🟩alien-skinned
Other cases One of the alleles is randomly chosen to be expressed.✋🏿dark/0.9
    🟩alien/0
    ✋🏿dark- or 🟩alien-skinned
    🟩alien/0
    ⬜mannequin/0
    🟩alien- or ⬜mannequin-skinned
  • When two Sims have a child, the game randomly chooses one allele from one parent, and another allele from another parent. The child alleles are chosen using the following rules:
    CaseResolution Example
    Alleles from parentsChild's alleles
The alleles from parents are both range skin tonesThe game chooses a random skin tone with a genetic value between the genetic values of the skin tone alleles from parents – including those skin tones.
The child receives two identical alleles of the chosen skin tone.
This means that the alleles from the parents are lost, unlike alleles for hair or eye color. Therefore, in this case, the child cannot pass on any hidden skin tone to their own children.
    ✋🏿dark/0.9
    ✋🏽medium/0.3
    ✋🏿dark/0.9
    ✋🏿dark/0.9
    –or–
    ✋🏾medium-dark/0.6
    ✋🏾medium-dark/0.6
    –or–
    ✋🏽medium/0.3
    ✋🏽medium/0.3
Other cases The child gets alleles from parents with no changes.✋🏿dark/0.9
    🟩alien/0
    ✋🏿dark/0.9
    🟩alien/0
    🟩alien/0
    ⬜mannequin/0
    🟩alien/0
    ⬜mannequin/0

The rules of skin tone genetics are based on my own research. I hope they are correct, but I can't guarantee it.
Other genetics notes
Sims created in CaS using the Create A Sim option (as opposed to the Make A Child option) or generated by the game (e.g. townies, NPCs; except for babies) always have two identical hair color, eye color, and skin tone alleles.

Hair colors, eye colors, and skin tones created in the Body Shop (custom content) have a genetic value of 0 by default. The genetic values can be changed though, e.g. in SimPe.
