Overview

This Windows utility restores the Edit in Game function in The Sims 3 Create a World Tool when using game patch 1.69 through the EA App.

The original CAW tool sends its Edit-in-Game launch information through Origin. Since Origin was replaced by the EA App, clicking File > Edit in Game may only open the regular Sims 3 Launcher, launch incorrectly, or return control to CAW before the game has finished loading.

This fix patches the installed CAW executable so that Edit in Game launches and is monitored correctly again.

Version 1.1.1 Update

Version 1.1.1 adds a read-only installation and support checker. After extracting the download, run Check Fix.cmd to confirm whether the fix is correctly installed and collect useful troubleshooting information.

The checker reports:

• Whether CAW.exe and WorldBuilderCS.exe contain the current fix.
• Whether the original backup files are valid.
• Whether CAW, The Sims 3, and the EA App were detected.
• Relevant running processes.
• Basic information about the newest Sims 3 crash report, when available.

The diagnostic report does not upload anything and omits usernames, computer names, personal paths, and crash call stacks.

Important: Extract the entire zip before running the installer or Fix Check. Do not run Check Fix.cmd from inside the ZIP. Version 1.1.1 now displays a clear extraction warning when its required files are missing.

The Edit-in-Game executable fix itself is unchanged from version 1

What this fixes

• Launches the installed TS3.exe directly with CAW's original Edit-in-Game arguments.
• Bypasses the obsolete Origin launch request.
• Allows time for the EA App authorization handoff.
• Monitors the actual Sims 3 process instead of the temporary startup process.
• Keeps CAW's Render Panel disabled while The Sims 3 is running.
• Reloads the world and restores the camera after The Sims 3 closes.
• Supports both standard CAW and SuperCAW 1.69.

Compatibility

This fix is intended only for:

• The Sims 3 version 1.69 through the EA App
• Create a World Tool version 1.22.10.024037
• The original CAW.exe supplied with that CAW version
• The SuperCAW 1.69 WorldBuilderCS.exe released by kapaer

No expansion or stuff packs are required.

This fix is not intended for The Sims 3 patch 1.67, Steam installations, macOS, or older versions of Create a World.

Custom installation instructions! READ ME!

In addition to the normal installation instructions, this download also has a custom instruction, as follows:

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Requirements

• Windows
• The Sims 3 version 1.69 through the EA App
• Create a World Tool version 1.22.10
• Stock CAW, SuperCAW 1.69, or both

Installation

1. Download the zip file and extract the entire folder. Do not run the installer from inside the ZIP.
2. Close Create a World, SuperCAW, The Sims 3, and The Sims 3 Launcher.
3. Open the extracted folder and double-click Install.cmd.
4. Accept the Windows administrator/UAC prompt.
5. Wait for the window to display:
CAW EA App Edit-in-Game Fix V1.X.X is installed.
6. Press any key to close the installer.

The installer automatically locates your CAW installation. It verifies each executable before making changes and creates a backup beside every patched file with the extension:

.ea-app-eig-backup

If both CAW.exe and the SuperCAW WorldBuilderCS.exe are installed, both will be patched.

The version 1.1.1 download contains the same EIG Fix 1 executables with an updated installation checker and support tool.

Checking the installation

1. Make sure the entire zip has been extracted.
2. Open the extracted folder.
3. Double-click Check Fix.cmd.
4. Review the assessment shown in the window.
5. A copy of the report will be saved as SuperCAW-EIG-Diagnostics.txt.

Fix Check does not require administrator access and does not modify CAW.

The report identifies:

• Whether CAW.exe and WorldBuilderCS.exe contain the current fix.
• Whether the installer backups are valid.
• Whether CAW, The Sims 3, and the EA App were detected.
• Relevant running processes.
• Basic information about the newest Sims 3 crash report, when available.

The report does not upload anything and omits usernames, computer names, personal paths, and crash call stacks.

Important: Do not run Check Fix.cmd from inside the zip or copy it without Check-Fix.ps1. If its required files are missing, Fix Check will display instructions to extract the complete folder.

Testing the fix

1. Start CAW or SuperCAW normally.
2. Open and save a world.
3. Select File > Edit in Game.
4. The Sims 3 should launch directly instead of stopping at the launcher.
5. CAW's editing surface should remain disabled while the game is running.
6. Exit The Sims 3 normally. CAW should reload the world and become usable again.

Uninstalling

1. Close CAW, SuperCAW, The Sims 3, and The Sims 3 Launcher.
2. Double-click Uninstall.cmd.
3. Accept the administrator prompt.

The uninstaller restores the verified backups created during installation.

If CAW is not detected

Open PowerShell inside the extracted folder and run the following command, replacing the example path with your CAW installation directory:

The installation checker accepts the same manual directory option:

If the installer reports an unsupported SHA-256 hash, your executable is a different or previously modified version. It will be left unchanged. Do not attempt to force the patch onto an unsupported file.

CAW / SuperCAW EA App Edit-in-Game Fix

Version 1.0 - 2026-07-28

- Bypass the obsolete Origin launch path for Edit in Game.
- Launch the detected TS3.exe with CAW's original EIG arguments.
- Ignore the temporary EA App authorization process for 15 seconds.
- Use CAW's existing TS3 watcher to keep the editor disabled until game exit.
- Support stock CAW 1.22.10 and SuperCAW 1.69.
- Add hash verification, automatic backup, idempotent install, and uninstall.

CAW / SuperCAW EA App Edit-in-Game Fix

Version 1.1.1 - Fix Check and support update

• Fixed a misleading error that could appear when Check Fix.cmd was launched from inside the ZIP. Windows could temporarily extract the CMD file without its required Check-Fix.ps1 companion, preventing the installation check from running.

• Fix Check now clearly explains that the entire package must be extracted when its required files are missing.

• Added a separate error result for cases where Fix Check could not run. These errors are no longer reported as problems with the installed CAW fix.

• Improved the messages shown for a current installation, an available update or warning, an unsupported configuration, and a checker launch failure.

• Updated the installation instructions and diagnostic tool version.

• No changes were made to the patched CAW executables. If EIG Fix 1.1 already works correctly, it does not need to be reinstalled. Version 1.1.1 only updates the package, checker, and documentation.

Version 1.1 - Diagnostics and reliability update

• Changed CAW error handling so that the original exception type, message, and stack trace are shown instead of a generic application error. This provides more useful information when troubleshooting an Edit-in-Game failure.

• Added Check Fix.cmd, a read-only diagnostic tool that identifies whether the current fix is installed and checks the surrounding CAW, Sims 3, and EA App environment.

• Added a privacy-redacted support report saved as SuperCAW-EIG-Diagnostics.txt. The report does not upload anything and omits usernames, computer names, personal paths, and crash call stacks.

• Added recognition for supported stock files, earlier fix versions, the current fix, and unsupported or previously modified executables.

• Added safe upgrades from EIG Fix 1.0 while preserving the original verified backup files.

• Improved installation and uninstallation safety by keeping file changes transactional. If an operation cannot be completed safely, the affected executable is left unchanged.

Version 1.0 - Initial release

• Replaced CAW's obsolete Origin-based Edit-in-Game launch request with a direct launch of the installed TS3.exe.

• Preserved CAW's original Edit-in-Game command-line arguments so the selected world opens correctly in The Sims 3.
