Update LogsUpdate 3 - 2026\1\15
- Introduction of car choice to be restored as
- With the car choice feature, before any work can be done on the wreck, you need to choose which car type to be restored as.
- Each car type can have its own amount of work needed for body, engine, and painting. (No specific paintjob)
- Each car type may cost more money if chosen, and once done so, the choice cannot be changed.
- More car types can be added by following an attached .txt file.
- The car choice feature is disabled by default; you will need to download _CarChoice.zip.
- Alternatively, change line 0x2 in BCON: 1014 - "Choose Car \ Outfit Enabling".
- Introduction of outfit choice to wear while working on the wreck
- For now, gym cloth and 2 career outfits are presented.
- More outfit types can be added by following an attached .txt file. They are best made following career outfit objects.
- More enhancement made to motive drain
- During certain animations, such as taking a breath or switching side, the motive drain is put on hold.
- Best seen with Sims working on the body - they need to switch side often and thus remained under the motive drain for longer.
- With this update, the motive drain is put on hold until they start working on the other side, leading to body workers suffering less drain than engine workers.

- Longer time needed to work on the default restorable car
(about 50% longer)- Skill gain rate reduced to 200% for Mechanical (body and engine) and 300% for Cleaning (paint)
- Animation speed boost starts at skill 1 and ends at skill 9.
- "Engine failure" animation properly draining
, and drains a small bit of Comfort and Hygiene.- Wrench disappearance after an "engine failure" is fixed by Sim taking a breath thereafter, which will also put the motive drain on hold.
- LTR statuses may be updated while working together.
Due to reworked code, any restorable car placed before Update 3 will lose progress. There are new debug interactions, however, which include setting progress on work or engine to complete, and paint, for car choice, to near completion.
Update 2 - 2025\7\1
- Critical update to CandK's 3t2 conversion
- Fixed an animation error and wrong car yielded on a successful repair
- "Rev Engine" properly boosts Fun and Tinkering.
- Previously, it boosted Hygiene instead...
Update 1 - 2025\6\22
- Major update allowing social gains and speed boost from high skills
- Sims working together earn STR and Social fairly quickly.
- High skills allow animation speed boost, but in return, the default speed is 25% slower.
- At 4 points, the speed is back to 100%. At 8 points, the speed is boosted to 150%.
- Repair is faster if done by highly skilled Sim, though not significantly so.
- Skill gain rates now scale with seriousness.
- "Work on Engine" no longer causes Sim to quit prematurely upon engine failure.
- "Paint" drains motives, but also builds Cleaning. It hardly lasts enough to be significant, though.
- "Rev Engine" provides a small but quick burst of Fun and Tinkering.
Enhanced version of CandK's 3t2 Classically Cool Fixer Upper Car conversion is available in 3t2ResCar.zip.
BackgroundFree Time restorable car is one aspect from the EP that I like. Whether it'll be for sale, instantly sold, or household usage, I am willing to find a free space to put one there and have my Sims work on it...in their free time!
The only issue was I never remembered to adjust its motive drains for years before making and releasing this mod!
This modification is the 1st of my mod uploaded here and it started out the simplest. Yet, it has the most downloads amongst my works. I have no proper thanks but to update it to an even better form.

The updated version retains the more reasonable motive drains as well as the progress indicators. New features make restoring car a more engaging activity,
as Sims can earn STR while working together and earning a bit of Fun revving up the engine. Skill points matter more now, as they can bestow speed boosts to help make repair go by quicker. As requested by RockStarDrunk, I have also updated CandK's 3t2 conversion of Classically Cool Fixer Upper Car, and released it publicly here at MTS.
FeaturesMotives and Skills
- More reasonable motive drains, the primary aim of this mod
- Drains Comfort, Hygiene and Energy; comparable to a workout
- More taxing on Comfort and Hygiene than on Energy

- Motive drain is on hold with appropriate animations, such as switching side and taking a breath.
- Fun gain scales with serious personality.
- Faster skill gain rates than default (200% vs 100%), that also scale with serious personality.
- Progress indicators are shown by clicking on the car. For body and engine works, but only with custom car choice for painting, and are shown even as the car is being worked on.
Interactions
- "Paint\Work on Paint" drains Comfort and Hygiene, though less so than on body or engine.
- "Paint\Work on Paint" builds Cleaning and fast (300%), since it takes little time.
- "Rev Engine" now gives a small and quick boost in Fun and Tinkering.
- "Work on Engine" no longer causes Sim to quit prematurely upon engine failure.
- "Work on Body" will enter the painting phase earlier at 90% instead of 98%. (Except for custom car choice)
Other Changes
- Working together is social 2 Sims working on a restorable car will quickly earn STR and the Social motive.
- Skills yield speed boosts - most animations are sped up the higher corresponding skill is.
- Sims with higher skills will finish the work faster than Sims with lower skills, but not much more so.
- Speed starts at 75% (slower than original), and can be increased up to 150%.
- Speed boost begins at 1 skill points and is capped at 9 skill points.
- Longer time to restore the car by default - about 50% longer
Extras
- Outfit choices to wear while working on the car
- Car choices other than the default one
- Car choice feature is disabled by default - get _CarChoice.zip instead or make an edit as per an attached .txt.
- If enabled, a car type must be chosen first before any work can be done.
- If the chosen car type costs more than the default restorable car, additional payment may be made.
- Chosen car has slightly different work stages than the default one - no paint phase during body work and longer, unspecific "Work on Paint".
For outfits, there are currently 4 choices: any outfit, gym cloth, Set 1: "scrub", and Set 2: "bricklayer".
Adding new car and outfit choices are supported. See the .txt files inside for detail.
Options2 versions of BetterResCar are available - _CarChoice has the car choice feature enabled. Use only either .zip.
CandK's conversion is standalone and has both the workable wreck and the restored car files, completed with all recolors.
IssuesCandK's conversion has uncorrected collision footprint (Sims can phase through the front, even as the engine is being worked on), but otherwise her conversion is fully functional.

Due to reworked code, any restorable car placed before Update 3 will lose progress. You can use the new debug menu, however.
Rarely, if a Sim quits while working on the body or the paint, they may have an FX stuck on them. An interaction on the wreck was made specifically to remedy this, but it has not been tested yet.
Please report any bugs in the comment section.

About Me
Mod update logs can be found on the main pages for mods updated from December 2025 onwards. Otherwise, they are always in the comment sections. Bold line indicates an important fix or a big feature. Some updates may be stated to be non-essential.
I prefer to modify and expand upon other people's contents, since I'm no artist. I will ask content creators still active first, but I'd love if they actually ask me to help out. I also like mods and objects that add more to gameplay (and modify them to add even more!) since everybody else has been making fixes.
