Dunstan grew more and more possessive of Iris over time, and, as time progressed, Iris became quieter and more frightened-looking, her face growing almost gaunt, making her eyes look even bigger in comparison to the rest of her features. She became less energetic, as though drained of her vitality. Dunstan wondered if perhaps she was ill, or perhaps she was changing because she secretly had another man in her life. This thought haunted him day and night, tormenting him.

She had better not be cheating on me, he thought fiercely. If she is, then I swear, I will kill them both!

The thought that Iris might be cheating on him drove him to worry that she was lying about where she was. Sure, she said she was with her father, but she could easily be lying, couldn’t she? So, Dunstan began calling her at random times.

He dialed her number and waited anxiously for her to answer. After three rings, she did.

“Hello?” she said, sounding weary.

It’s worse than I thought, Dunstan thought. She must have just finished fooling around! Aloud, he demanded, “Where are you?”

“At home. I slept late,” Iris replied slowly, yawning.

“Like hell you were,” Dunstan said sharply. “You’re fooling around behind my back!”

“No,” Iris protested. “Really, I’m not. I swear. Why would I do something like that?”

“Because you’re the type who’d do that.”

“Dunstan, no!” Iris cried out. “I’d never cheat on you, ever. You know that.”

“When you slept over the other day, you said a guy’s name. Josh.”

“Josh is my annoying cousin who’s always picking on me. I always have nightmares about him playing tricks on me,” Iris explained.

“You’re lying.”

“Dunstan, I’d never lie to you.”

“Yeah, and what am I supposed to think, with you having all those guys around you, hm? Trying to get into your pants and all.”

“Dunstan, they’re just friends. I’m not fooling around with any of them.”

“You’re a liar! I know you’re sleeping around behind my back!” Dunstan snapped.

Iris burst into tears. “Why do you always have to do this to me?” she sobbed. “I try to be a good girlfriend to you, and then you accuse me of these things. You’re treating me like dirt.”

“No, I’m not,” Dunstan replied. “I just don’t like being lied to or cheated on.”

“But I’m not!” Iris sobbed. “I’m not!”

“Maybe, maybe not. But I think you are.”

“With who, then?” Iris exclaimed, between sniffles. “Only places I go are to your place, school, and the mall. Who the hell do you think I’m fooling around with?”

“I don’t know, but when I do find out, you better make damn sure he doesn’t ever cross my path, because if he does, his *** is dead!” Dunstan replied. And with that, he hung up the phone.

Yeah, bet she won’t fool around on me now, he thought.

Author's Note: I'm still waiting for my laptop to be repaired. Apparently, it's taking a while for the part to come in. So, I had to do this update on the home computer, which doesn't have a particularly good photo editing program or the stuff I normally use for my story.
