Artemis Verona
Subject: My Family and Friends

I love my family very much. My family isn’t like other families that I see. Normal families have a mommy and a daddy and some kids. My family is a lot bigger. There’s me and my mommy and my daddy. But there’s also my Aunt Lia (Mommy says Aunt Lia is her cousin, but I call her Aunt Lia anyway) and there’s Aunt C. Aunt C is Aunt Lia’s partner, whatever that means. I think that means they decided they liked being around each other so much they decided to live together. There’s also Lisa, who Aunt Lia and Aunt C are raising because Lisa’s mommy is always busy with her job.


I also like to spend time with Nathan and his mommy. Nathan’s daddy and Lisa’s mommy work together in a band. Nathan’s mommy is really pretty and gives Nathan all kinds of cool toys. She’s really nice and says that she considers me and my family to be part of her family, so I guess she’s family to me too.

I like to spend time with Nathan. He’s my best friend. I hope we stay best friends forever. I like Lisa too, but she gets mad when Nathan wants to play with me instead of her. I don’t know why. But Nathan is always nice and we have fun together all the time.

Lisa Brown
Subject: My Family and Friends

I don’t see my mom very much because she’s always away playing in a band. Mom’s friends Miss Lia and Miss C take care of me though. Don’t tell anyone, but I wish they were my real family, instead of my mom. I don’t know my dad. When I try to ask Mom about it, she says that he’s a scumbag and I’m better off not knowing him. I don’t know why she doesn’t like my dad so much. If she knows who my dad is, why is she making me live with her friends? Did Dad do something bad?

Miss C is very quiet and doesn’t say much. But she’s nice to me and takes care of me. Miss Lia talks more and likes to make clothes for me sometimes. She makes clothes for some of my dolls too. She tried to make a doll to look like me but it didn’t turn out good.


I really like Nathan. He’s really nice to me. But I don’t like Artemis. She acts like she’s better because she has a mom and dad. I don’t get why Nathan likes to play with her. I think she just acts nice to me so Nathan will keep being her friend. I wish Nathan would be my friend instead of hers. She really makes me mad!

Subject: My Family and Friends

My mom is really nice. I miss my dad. He’s in a band and travels all over the world. But he brings back stuff for me and Mom so I guess that’s okay. He’s really nice when he is around and we play video games and race cars and stuff. Mom doesn’t really like that stuff but we play cards and she even buys me robot toys and clothes to play pirates in. I really like my family. I wish I had a brother or sister but Mom says she has enough trouble running after me. I don’t know what that means. Grownups sure are weird sometimes.


My two best friends are Artemis and Lisa. I like to play pirates with them, except Lisa complains when Artemis gets the shirt she wanted. Artemis is really good at video games. She’s better than I am but she lets me win sometimes. Lisa always wants to play on the swings or play tag. That’s fun sometimes but not always.
