Author's Note: Hey, guys! WCC has officially been around four years. To celebrate, in case you haven't heard, I'm doing a little contest on the fan board (posted under the "story discussion" section). It's a little silly, but everyone who participates gets a little something! So, thanks to everyone who's been reading! You're the reason I keep working on this! Much love!

“So, Angel, tell me about yourself,” Mark prompted.
Angel raised an eyebrow. “Seriously?” she asked. “You really are weird. You sure you’re not… y’know… not into women?”
“I like women fine. I just kind of have an issue with getting into bed with them when I’ve only known them a few minutes. Look, Ace wants you to keep me entertained, right? Well, talking will be a nice source of entertainment for me. You’re doing your job, no one gets mad. Get it?”
“Yeah… yeah, I guess I see where you’re coming from,” Angel responded slowly.
“So? Tell me about yourself.”
“What do you want to know?”
“Whatever you want to talk about.”
“What’s there to say?” Angel muttered. “I have a cousin who alternately hates my guts and tolerates me, the rest of my family pretty much ignores my existence, an in-law or something who’s really getting to be a big deal…”
“Yeah, but what about you? Tell me about you.”
“Oh, let’s see,” Angel replied, putting on her ditz face. “I like kittens and long walks on the beach at sunset.”
“Be serious,” Mark sighed.
“Seriously? Fine. I… uh… I guess I like movies…”
“Yeah? What kind?”
Angel frowned a little, then replied slowly, “All sorts. Pretty much everything from Chinatown to Back to the Future to Animal House.”
“Nice.”
Encouraged a little by this, Angel continued, “I also like some foreign films. Audition really freaked me out.”
“Yeah, it’s a pretty weird movie. What other stuff do you like?”
“Well, I--” Angel began.
The door opened, and she looked up, startled. Ace Nix was standing in the doorway, frowning at her.
“A-Ace, I was just--” Angel stammered.
Ace stormed forward and grasped Angel’s arm firmly, then yanked her up into a standing position. “What the hell is going on?” he snapped. “I asked you to take care of him, not become his best friend!”
“Well, I wanted to talk,” Mark spoke up. “Really, there’s no problem here!”
“Stay out of this,” Ace snapped. To Angel, he added, “Why do you think I put up with your junkie *** instead of throwing you out on the street where you belong? You really think he gives a damn about you, really?”
“Hey, ‘he’ is standing right here!” Mark shouted. He pulled Ace’s hand off of Angel. “Now, I don’t know about you, but I actually believe in treating women like they have the sense to know what they do or don’t want to do. If she wants to sit and talk to me instead of doing whatever the hell you want her to, that’s her business.”
“Then, you’re not staying here,” Ace replied.
“What?”
“You heard me. Get your *** out. Don’t even take your stuff. I’ll send it to the hotel you decide to stay at instead.”
Mark was silent for a moment. “Fine,” he finally said. “But can I take one thing with me? Just one thing. You can send everything else along to the hotel when I call and let you know I’ve arrived. But there’s one thing I want to take with me. You know, to make sure nothing happens to it. Easily damaged goods. Don‘t want it damaged in transit.”
“Yeah, sure, whatever,” Ace replied.
“You sure?”
“Yes, damn it, now take what you’re taking and get the hell out of here!”
“Well, then, if you’re okay with it,” Mark responded, shrugging. He turned to Angel and said, “Come on. Let’s go find you a place to stay where you don’t have to deal with this jerk.” With that, he turned and started to walk out. After a second of hesitation, Angel began to follow him.
“What? What the hell? That’s not what we agreed to!” Ace yelled after him.
“Yes, it was,” Mark replied calmly. “You said I could take one thing with me. I’m taking this nice young lady with me. I figure she’d be better off anywhere that’s not here.”
“You’re so full of it,” Ace scowled. “Think you’re going to get something special just for being the gallant knight in shining armor, rescuing the damsel in distress?”
“No. But I would like to think that I’m occasionally capable of at least being a better person than you are.”
“You’re not taking her.”
“You can’t make her do anything she doesn’t want to. If she wants to leave with me, she can.”
They both turned to Angel. After a few moments of collecting her thoughts, she finally said, “…I’m going with Mark. I might even get into rehab, clean myself up. I’m not going to spend my life getting hit and used.”
Ace stared at her, shocked. “Fine! Go with him! But I’m not taking you back! Just wait, once he get sick of dealing with your bull****, he’ll be begging me to take you back.”
Angel ignored him. “So,” she said to Mark, “do we have to stand here listening to him, or can we go somewhere else? I could go for a bite to eat, personally.”
